Week 8 Fantasy Football: Gibbs and Bijan Battle for the Top Spot, While Jonah Coleman Heads the Waiver Wire

Fantasy Football week 8!
Fantasy Football week 8!

Week 8 arrives with the usual mid-season chaos. Four teams are on bye (the 49ers, Giants, Saints, and Texans), which means Christian McCaffrey, Malik Nabers, and others are unavailable. Injuries continue to force tough decisions, and the waiver wire still has a few high-upside options if you move quickly.

Top Starts: Running Backs Set the Tone

Jahmyr Gibbs (Lions) and Bijan Robinson (Falcons) sit at the top of most consensus rankings. Gibbs has been the more productive back through seven weeks in many formats, posting elite volume and scoring. He faces the Vikings at home in a game that should stay competitive. Robinson travels to Tampa Bay; the matchup is slightly tougher, but his talent and role keep him a locked-in start in nearly every league.

Kenneth Walker III (Chiefs), James Cook (Bills), and Jonathan Taylor (Colts) round out the next tier of reliable RB1 options. At wide receiver, Jaxon Smith-Njigba (Seahawks) and Puka Nacua (Rams) headline the flex board, with Ja’Marr Chase and CeeDee Lamb close behind when healthy.

Quarterback Rankings Snapshot

Josh Allen leads most Week 8 boards against the Ravens. Drake Maye sits right behind him in a favorable spot at Miami. Lamar Jackson, Dak Prescott, Joe Burrow, and Jayden Daniels fill out the top tier. Patrick Mahomes and Bo Nix both face tougher matchups in the AFC West showdown and are lower-end starts this week.

Waiver Wire Priority: Jonah Coleman

The clearest add this week is Broncos rookie running back Jonah Coleman. In his return from injured reserve in Week 7, he led Denver’s backs in snaps, routes, and carries (9 for 54 yards plus 2 catches for 15 yards). Head coach Sean Payton publicly noted that Coleman needs more touches. Ownership is still low enough in many leagues that he remains available, and the upside is real if the committee shifts further in his direction against the Chiefs.

Other names drawing attention:

- Omar Cooper Jr. (Jets WR) — Back-to-back 100-yard games with a touchdown in each since returning from injury. Solid floor and ceiling against the Raiders.

- KC Concepcion (Browns WR) — Recent breakout performance; available in some shallower leagues.

- Streaming QBs and defenses remain viable if you lost a starter to the bye or injury (Jacoby Brissett and certain defenses are popular mentions).

Quick Start/Sit Notes

- Start the volume backs (Gibbs, Robinson, Walker, Cook) with confidence.

- Monitor injury reports closely for Saquon Barkley, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and others who carry designations.

- If you’re thin at RB because of the byes, prioritize Coleman or other high-snap options before you settle for pure streamers.

Lineup decisions get harder every week as injuries accumulate and byes hit. Stick to volume and matchup where the data is clear, and don’t overthink the elite options. Good luck this weekend—may your starts stay healthy and your waiver claims clear.
