Nancy Hart, The Fearless Frontier Warrior
A six-foot-tall, red-headed frontierswoman. Illiterate. Crack shot. And one of the most feared Patriots in the Georgia backcountry. While her husband fought with the militia, Nancy Hart defended her family and the Patriot cause with raw courage and deadly ingenuity. She spied on British camps disguised as a “crazy man,” captured Loyalist soldiers at her own dinner table, and once flung boiling lye soap into a Tory spy’s face before tying him up. In Episode 3 of Unsung Patriots, we dive into the legendary, and very real, story of the woman locals called the “War Woman.” Her exploits in the brutal guerrilla war of the Southern frontier helped terrorize Loyalists and keep the Patriot spirit alive when the British seemed unstoppable in the South.
